Born London, 1980.
After leaving St Paul’s School, Alex Rooney studied drawing in Italy where he was exposed to a rigorous method of instruction. He went on to study Modern History at Queen’s College, Oxford. During that time, he maintained a studio in which he was able to further his painting studies. On returning to London, he built a studio in the South West of the city where he now devotes his time to portraits and larger figurative pieces.
Alongside numerous portrait commissions, Alex Rooney has painted widely in France, Spain and America. He has also exhibited in several group shows, including the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and the Discerning Eye Prize, Mall Galleries, London. He won the 2009 Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize, Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries.
He is currently working towards a solo show.
