Born London, 1980.

Alex Rooney studied drawing in Italy where he was exposed to a rigorous method of instruction. He went on to read Modern History at Queen’s College, Oxford. During those years, he maintained a studio where he taught himself to paint. Now based in London, he devotes his time to portraits and larger figurative pieces.

He has exhibited in The Columbia Threadneedle Prize, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, The Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and The Discerning Eye Prize, Mall Galleries, London. He won the 2009 Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize, RBA, Mall Galleries. Internationally, he has exhibited work in the 2019 ModPortrait Exhibition, Meam Museum, Barcelona and the 2020 Algo màs que realismo XIV, Zaragoza, Spain.
